Ford Foundation Southern Africa

The Southern Africa office of the Ford Foundation is in Johannesburg. We have been making grants in the region for more than 40 years. Currently, we work to reduce poverty, injustice and inequity, to promote access to opportunities and economic resources for disadvantaged communities, and to encourage good governance and strengthen education systems.

Ford Foundation West Africa

The West Africa office of the Ford Foundation is in Lagos, Nigeria. We have been making grants in the region since 1958. Our work addresses some of the region's most pressing problems with a focus on human rights, sexuality and reproductive health, arts and culture, and improving the economic well-being and quality of life for those in need.

Ford Foundation Brazil

The Brazil office of the Ford Foundation is in Rio de Janeiro. Since 1962 we have supported the democratic and just development of the country. During our tenure we have encouraged open debate on several key issues: strengthening democratic values and international cooperation and eradicating poverty and injustice.

Ford Foundation Cairo

The Ford Foundation has been making grants from the Cairo office for more than half a century. Efforts have focused on addressing key development gaps and identifying opportunities to improve lives. This office makes grants in the fields of Governance and Civil Society, Higher Education, Human Rights, Media, Arts and Culture and Reproductive Health. We also support smaller initiatives on Philanthropy and on Gender Equity and Justice, which addresses the role and status of women.

Ford Foundation Eastern Africa

The Eastern Africa office of the Ford Foundation is in Nairobi. Opened in 1962, the office focuses its work in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Our longstanding presence in the region is characterized by tackling root causes of problems and working directly with those affected to find solutions. The office makes grants in the areas of Education and Sexuality, Environment and Development, Governance and Civil Society, Human Rights and Social Justice and Media, Arts and Culture.

Ford Foundation Vietnam

The Ford Foundation began making grants in Vietnam in the early 1990s and was issued a license to establish an office in Hanoi in October 1996. During our first decade, we approved more than 550 grants to organizations and individuals in Vietnam, as well as to foreign institutions working for the benefit of Vietnam, totaling $71 million. In 2006, grant making in Vietnam reached $9 million per year. Our Vietnam office also makes grants in Thailand. (Updated 2008)
