Legal Services of South Central Michigan, a private nonprofit agency providing free legal advice and representation to low-income people, joined with the University of Michigan Law School to operate the Michigan Poverty Law Program. Through that project, the group launched the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Program.
Funded by grants from the Ford Foundation, the Michigan State Bar Foundation and the Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance, the program links law offices across the state in assisting homeowners facing foreclosure.
